Weekend with G & G

Jason was out of town on a guy's trip riding four-wheelers last Friday-Sunday so the kids went to spend the night with my parents Friday night and spent all day Saturday there (while I wasted my free time working on my computer reloading everything. Not exactly what I had in mind!). Friday night they made their traditional sugar cookies and then had a blast playing inside a huge box my dad set up for them with flash lights and they colored the inside with markers. On Saturday they went to the park for 2 1/2 hours and even took Maggie with them. They meet another 3 year old boy there and quickly became friends with him. They ran, walked Maggie (well, technically she walked them around the park), ran, played in the sand with sand toys, rode in the tire swing, slid on the slides, etc. They just love going to the park and being outside. After playtime they made pizzas for lunch and did some crafts. Of course there was some play time with Maggie, as Emerson is infactuated with her. Poor Maggie was exhausted as she even decided to plop down on the bean bag for a rest all while Emerson played DJ on the radio. My mom says her DJ job is nothing but LOUD! :) Later that night they met me at Willies to drop the kids off as we were meeting my friend Laura and her kiddos for dinner. Needless to say the kids were worn out but had a fantastic time. I am so thankful for all that my parents do and for taking the time to always make memories with the kids. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't even be able to work part-time either. They are a blessing and I hope they realize how much we appreciate it!

Gray Hair

My dad made a comment to me this past weekend when the kids spent the night with them that he is surprised that I don't have gray hair yet from Emerson. She is such a character and has always kept us on our toes. Every minute with her is an adventure. My parents tell me week after week that they enjoy to sit back and laugh at her and all of her antics as she always keeps them entertained. I remember my mom telling me that I caused her to get gray hair, but I was a teenager. And Emerson is only 3! So, I want to make a list of all of the silly, cute, annoying, and memorable things that she does so I don't forget. I want to be able to look back on the memories and of course show her once she has kids of her own. This is strictly for me, so don't feel like you need to read my really long post. I need to do a post soon for Landon too.

-She still loves to hoard things. Every time we leave the house to go somewhere, even 1/2 a mile down the street, she has to load up a purse, bag, or container with stuff to take with her. All random things and her favorites change each week. When I clean up the playroom or their rooms I ALWAYS find tons of stuff stuffed in places and bags. See the pictures below as an example. All of those containers were within containers. She likes to shove stuff in drawers and now under the bed too. You will often hear me at night when cleaning saying "oh my goodness" or "you have got to be kidding me" while laughing. It really is that bad. She walks around carrying all of that stuff as well as her blanket and whatever other random items that she wants that particular day. She comes down first thing in the morning with them and even in the middle of the night.

-Getting dressed in the morning is a chore as she is so slow and is such a procrastinator. She likes to slowly wonder around filling up her bag/purse for the car ride and then decides that she doesn't like what clothes I am putting on her or what bow color I picked out. Then she typically decides that she is thirsty or needs to go the bathroom all while she is in no hurry and is happy as a clam. Buckling up in her car seat is a chore too as she takes her sweet time not wanting any help, but she can't always loosen it herself.

-In stores and parking lots she still tries to do her own thing, run away, hide, not hold our hands, etc. Today in a clothing store she kept hiding under all of the clothes racks and I couldn't keep track of her. She has no fear of strangers or of getting lost. I am the one panicked while she is in la-la land. It's all fun and games to her as she has her own plans and a mind of her own. This makes running errands a nightmare most of the time.

-She is still a big mama's girl and wants me all the time. She says "mama" in that cute tone at least 200 times a day. One day I told her that I was changing my name and that it wasn't "mama" anymore. She responds with, "Is it now Allison?" I about died laughing. Today at the store she kept saying "mama" over and over just to get a rise out of me. When I wasn't responding she then began yelling "Allison" over and over again. The lady working at the store about fell over! Also, at this same store she decided to belt out loud and clear in front of all 20 people, "My poop is coming out!!!". Talk about embarrassing. I kept trying to pull her out of the store but she kept yelling it while grabbing her pants.

-She loves to talk and sing 24/7. She is so animated and goofy and even makes up her own songs or puts songs together. She will often dance and make up her own hand motions with the songs too. In fact, due to her loud talking she was removed from the middle of the lesson during children's church a few weeks ago...while Jason and I were her teachers! She just wants to talk when she wants to talk. Apparently, we need to work on that! Ha! When my mom watches Emerson every Thursday my dad always calls to talk to her during lunch and she likes to go on and on talking his ear off. Half of the time she is not even listening to the other person on the phone as she goes on and on with the phone hanging off of her ear as she looks around the room thinking of what else to ramble about.

-Emerson loves to pretend play pretty much all the time. She has full conversations with people as she pretends to be on the phone, has tea parties, plays teacher, gymnastics instructor, and band director, plays dress-up, and lines up her hot wheels and dolls as they wait in the line at Chickfila. It's endless! She is typically the leader telling Landon what to do. I heard her the other day pretending to be a teacher as she was telling Landon to repeat back the ABC's and she sounded just like a teacher. One day she was also directing him on some gymnastics/exercise moves. It so reminded me of a Jazzercise instructor!

-Emerson loves the social and fun aspects of school but is not big on the academic part. She is slowly learning to write and enjoy it although she wants no help and thinks she knows the right way to do everything. School is fun and games to her....she must of got that from her dad! But, she does love to read and in the morning her bed is often full of books that she reads during the night.

-She is so affectionate and is still a cuddler. She still loves to be held and will hug you tightly and place her sweet head on your shoulder and snuggle. I just eat it up, especially when she is sick and does it all the time. It still makes me feel like I have a baby and not a 3 year old! She tells us several times a day that she loves us "this much" as she extends her arms all the way out. During the sad part of movies she still gets emotional and if one of us gets hurt or cries she gets sad and will love all on us. The other night while laying in bed with her she told me that she didn't like me anymore because she was mad at me. I covered up my face and pretended to cry and she immediately in a sweet voice (it was amazing how her voice changed) was in my face hugging me and telling me that she loved me. At one point she started to tear up. It's pretty effective and sweet.

-Last but not least is her sleeping habits. From the day she was born she hasn't been a good sleeper. I remember when she was just a few months old she wouldn't sleep during the day or take naps. If she did fall asleep I could set my watch by it as she would wake up after only 40 minutes. Now she only takes naps a few times a month and we have to lay down with her until she falls asleep (she still needs naps though as she can be cranky). She is a very light sleeper too and doesn't sleep well. She goes through phases of really not sleeping well and it started up again 3 weeks ago. She is going through a "monster phase" and is terrified of shadows. Landon never went though that. She comes down to get me almost every single night anywhere between midnight-6am, most of the time around 2am. The first few nights she looked terrified and was crying saying the monsters or shadows were scaring her but now I am not sure if it is just a habit. She comes downstairs carrying her purse or whatever her chosen junk was that she slept with, blanket, and light up baby that we got her for when she is scared (it's obviously not working!!)and I typically end up putting her in bed with us as I am half asleep. Some nights I go upstairs and lay down with her. Not sure what to do about this phase as nothing is easing her fear. She is even afraid during the day to go upstairs and she is afraid of the shadows. A few nights ago I was laying in bed with her as she was staring at her closet door (we now leave the light on in there and leave the closet door open) and she asked me if I saw the man looking at us. It was rather freaky as she went on and on about this man and his eyes. The next night it was about a boy and today it was another monster and his eyes. I'm not sure what to make of it. All I can think about is the movie Sixth Sense.

Go Texan Day

Landon had his Go Texan Day at school last Thursday instead of Friday because they had class pictures on Friday. I am not sure if they even did any rodeo themed activities...probably not as kindergartners are suppose to be reading books equivalent to Harry Potter and solving algorithms by the end of the year. Just sayin'! :) Not going to get on my soap box today! Emerson has her fun rodeo days at school next week. Looking forward to that if I can take off of work as Wednesday is one of my days I teach. We quickly went shopping today after school before we had to pick Landon up at this local children's boutique I have bought from several times before and found some C-U-T-E pink and brown boots and two dresses. So stinkin' cute! Hope she will wear boots again this year as they were more money than I wanted to spend. But, I am hoping since they are a little big she can wear them again next year.

Valentine's Day Party

Emerson had her Valentine's Day party at school on Monday, February 13th. I just love her cute school parties and will miss them dearly once she is in kindergarten. I am savoring every minute of them! At the party they had snacks, decorated a foam heart teddy bear, made a heart candy necklace, and then sang a cute song for all of us. I couldn't get a good video as she was in the back of the group, but she just sang along with all of the hand motions. Precious! She was so sweet as she decided as she was making her teddy bear and necklace that she was going to give them to Landon. Everything she does or everywhere she goes, she is always thinking about him. It's so sweet! She did decide though that she was going to lick the necklace a few times first before giving it to him. Yummy! :) Jason was planning on going to the party too and he forgot as he got tied up at work. He felt SO bad and guilty. He is such a good dad as he participates in a lot and wants to be there for all of their events, whether they are insignificant or not. I think he realizes just as much as me that every moment is precious as they are only little for such a short period of time. I am sad now that Landon is in kindergarten and a lot of those "cute fun events" have already passed. And with me teaching part-time I don't get to do as much with Emerson as I want to and as I did with him.

The next day on Valentine's Day Emerson had fun at gymnastics as they did all kinds of cute Valentine themed activities and exchanged cards/treats with all of her friends. Afterwards we went out to eat at Willies Icehouse with our usual wonderful group of moms and kids...such great friends! Landon didn't have a party at school but he did get to exchange cards only (ridiculous!!) with all of this classmates. He was so excited when he came home to open up all 20 of them. And once again, sweet Emerson already told me at gymnastics that ALL of her candy in her bag was for Landon. So, she shared with him so he didn't miss out. Once Jason got home we all exchanged Valentine presents/cards and then went out to eat for some pizza at Palio's Pizza followed up by some frozen yogurt at Menchies. It was a nice day!

I love capturing her many faces! She is such a character!
