A&M vs SMU

Last Saturday Landon went with my parents and I to the A&M and SMU game.  We left in the afternoon and stopped at Cotton Patch on the way in for an early dinner.  Once we got on campus we walked around a little and then my dad and Landon went into the stadium early while my mom and I went to wait in line to buy Maroon Out shirts for this year.  Apparently, they both went up to the top level of The Zone, probably because Landon was asking a million questions, to check out the view.  My dad took the picture below with his phone.  I'm impressed he can now take pictures with his phone and actually text them to my mom.  Now, it's of course not an iPhone!  Landon talked about walking up there for quite a while.  Once we got settled in Landon's onslaught of questions began since his medicine wore off and he happened to get up at 5am that morning.  I'm not kidding when I say that between the hours of 3-11pm he asked about 1,000 questions.  He is the most inquisitive child ever!  He literally asked questions during the music, national anthem, and half time.  During the game he also enjoyed spotting Reveille, watching the band and the fly over, checking things out from his binoculars, clapping to the music, eating every snack in sight thanks to Grandma, and of course asking questions.  He enjoyed the game until the 3rd quarter and then he was ready to go home.  We waited a little later to leave so we had some foot and car traffic.  Thank goodness for the DVD player in the car and he was good to go!  While we were gone Jason took Emerson shopping and then ate dinner and watched the game at Nana and Grandpa's house.  She was sound asleep by the time we got home and Jason said she was super well behaved since she was all alone (meaning no sibling fighting and competing!).  Jason did get a taste of what it is like to shop with a girl.  He said she wanted to buy something at every.single.stop.  Duh, that's a girl for you!

Former player Ja'Mar Toombs.  He played when I was a student and was pivotal in the 1999 win over Texas after the Bonfire collapse.

Caught him by accident asking a question!  This was the ENTIRE game!  I mean he has only been to at least 6 Aggie games.

Two peas in a pod

Here's Johnny!

This video shows just what the whole game was like.  :)  And, I didn't plan on catching him asking questions, but clapping along.

The Most Talked About Game of the Year

Last Saturday was notably the most talked about college football game of the year, especially in Houston, Texas, and in the SEC.  A&M was set to play Alabama on a warm Saturday at 2:30pm in College Station.  For this game Jason and I went with my parents and the kids stayed at Nana and Grandpa's house.  We headed that way in the morning and once in College Station we stopped and ate lunch at Schlotzsky's.  We then headed to campus where it was a mass amount of people, cars, and tailgaters.  We had a lot of traffic where we parked which typically we don't have much because there happened to be a wreck on campus that backed up where we were trying to go.  Fun, fun!  After finding our spot we walked to the Heisman tent just to check things out.  We didn't want to wait in the hot, sweaty, and stinky line (think closed-in tent in close quarters with hundreds of people and it's 95+ degrees), so we took pictures from out of the line and just so happened to walk in as John David Crow was finishing up speaking and was about to pose for pictures and sign autographs.  We then waited in line to sweat some more to buy some Aggie memorabilia before heading into the stadium.  Boy, it was hot but after about 2 hours we were in shade and it was so much better.  The atmosphere was unbelievable.  I don't think I have ever seen Kyle Field so energized (well, a few other big games were equivalent) and with so many white 12th Man towels.  It was very neat and pictures don't do it justice.  Gene Stallings was the honorary captain  and we was there with many former players from Alabama and A&M who were on the 1938 championship team.  There also was a ridiculous amount of recruits watching from the sidelines during practice.  They picked the perfect game, although the result was not want we wanted.  Wow, it was a great game!  The 1st half we played better than the 2nd half.  I couldn't believe how we came from behind and was so hoping we could of pulled it off.  We never gave up, which is a true testament of Aggies and the 12th Man.  But, to only lose by 7 points is not too shabby.  But, ahhh, almost!  Of course the Aggie band didn't disappoint either.  It was a great game, with not favorable results, in an unbelievable environment.  Jason and I had a lot of fun.  On our way home we stopped and ate a nice, quiet, delicious dinner with my parents at Alicia's and called it an early night with no kids because we were tired.  All of that cheering, adrenaline, and anxiety wore me out.  I hate close games and was a ball of nerves.
