Last Friday and Tuesday we ended up with a rare "snow day", which in Houston equates to ice on the overpasses with idiots that can't drive. On Friday we received a phone call at 5am, that I anticipated, from the school district saying no school. Jason had a conference call at 5:30am to make a decision as to whether or not to keep his facility open since he is the 2nd in charge as the Director of Operations. Despite all of the schools and most of the city being shut down, one moron said that he made it into work at 5am with no problems and several other managers concurred that they would stay open. HUGE mistake! Jason barely made it in and most of the managers that decided to stay open, never even showed up. It took Jason over 30 minutes to get there and at one point he called me to tell me he didn't think he could make it and didn't know what to do. He was nervous and stressed. Every overpass was solid ice and he just coasted and slid over each one. He passed wrecked cars everywhere, even a fire truck, and the overpasses were being shut down just as he was making it over them. He lucked out and missed the whole freeway being shut down by seconds as they were not letting anyone else get on due to the ice and a big wreck, that Jason passed. Crazy! Then he could barely get out at lunch time due to the feeder road traffic from the shut down freeway. Only about a handful of people out of 240 ever made it in. Meanwhile at home, the kids and I stayed in our pajamas all day. I let them play on their electronics pretty much most of the day as I had a lot of school work to get done and needed it quiet. I completed my book study paper, a TELPAS on-line training, getting paperwork ready for PDAS, and 6 hours of on-line classes. I was so glad to get a lot of it done and even finished 10 more hours of on-line classes on Saturday.
Tuesday ended up being another "snow day". What are the odds in Houston, Texas? School was called off the night before around 6pm. Yay for no 5am call! Jason had a conference call at 6:30pm and they decided due to Friday's disaster and nobody showing up, to just cancel work for Tuesday. So, we all slept in on Tuesday and even late in the morning we had some sleet and snow. The kids were thrilled and surprised as we were expecting none as did the weather men. After watching it fall pretty heavily for Houston standards and accumulating in the flower beds, roofs, and swing set, we decided to bundle up and go have some fun in it. The kids made several snow balls from the snow/ice on the slide and had a lot of snow ball fights. They slipped and slided on the fort and chased each other down with snow balls. Jason and I even had some fun too chunking them at each other. It was fun and the kids had a ball! Boy, I'm glad they finally got to see some snow again. After playing in the snow the kids spent the day playing inside, painting, doing arts/crafts, and Jason braided Emerson's hair, painted her fingernails, and put make-up on her. It was so sweet and he is a sucker as Emerson always goes right to him for a makeover or pedicure and manicure! He doesn't know how to say "no". It was a nice low key kind of day. Another day of pajamas and no make-up for me. Yay! Just what I needed.

On Saturday, the day after our first ice day, our group of neighbors/friends all cooked out again. The guys made ribs, sausage, and chicken most of the afternoon while the ladies made and brought snacks and side dishes. It's so nice as we do this pretty regularly and it always just comes together. We all ate outside by the fire, as it was still chilly. The kids (9 this time!) ended up playing inside the house across the street after they scarfed down their dinner while all the adults sat around the fire and laughed, chatted, and drank. Always a great time and NEVER a dull moment! We finally called it a night around 11pm. The kids were pooped!
