Last week was the last week of summer for the kids. My summer was over though! :( I had to attend teacher inservice all last week. Whew, it was tough since I haven't had to attend since 2005. Getting up at 5:30am, driving all over town in lovely Houston traffic (212 miles to be exact!), sitting in meetings all day long, and getting home after 5pm. But, now I'm back to my new part-time hours of Monday-Wednesday 8:30-3:10. I'm basically doing the same thing as the past 3 years, but am now on contract and am getting paid a lot more with benefits year round. Before I was paid out of extra Title I funds or reading intervention funds on an hourly rate. I am working 10 hours more a week and am a part-time Title I Reading Teacher. It should be an interesting year, but at least I am with the same great teachers and staff. Taking it one day at a time and am looking forward to the extra money to pay off some debt and medical bills...never ending!
Soooo, while I was working the kids still got to have some fun. It was hard for me to not be with them cramming in some last minute fun summer activities, but the grandparents and Jason filled in for me. On Monday and Tuesday Jason took them to work with him since he was leaving way after me and my mom met him at work and the kids went back to her house. Each day they played, swam, and had a great time. They really enjoyed playing with Olga's (next door neighbor) grandson, Vincent. They have been teaching him how to swim. On Wednesday Jason took work off and he spent the day with the kids. Emerson had a cooking class tea party from 11-1 so after they dropped her off Jason and Landon went to the driving range to hit some golf balls (Landon's first real time) and then they went to Chili's for lunch. After Emerson's tea party they went to watch Planes in 3D. Once I got home and Comcast was done fixing our cable Jason's parents came over to pick the kids up to spend the night. We went to dinner at Gringo's first and then they were on their way. On Thursday Nana took them to Memorial City Mall where they rode the carousel, went to the movies to see Smurfs 2, and then ate lunch at James Coney Island. On Friday the kids had Meet the Teacher in the morning and Kindergarten Orientation (thank goodness my principal let me come in late to work so I could take them!) and then my parents came to the house to pick them up while I headed to work. They ended up feeding the ducks at the hospital and then taking Emerson to an 11am doctor appointment. This was only the 2nd appointment that I have not been at in all of their lives! The first one was when Landon was 5 weeks old to have his umbilical stump looked at and Jason was forever traumatized as the doctor had to slice away at it while Landon screamed. It was gross! Anyways, Emerson started complaining a lot that her ear hurt especially during bath time and when brushing her hair. She's dramatic so we kind of blew it off thinking it was still her bruised ear. It was really the other ear. Turns out she was in a lot of pain and had swimmers ear, which is suppose to be really painful. It's finally getting better with the drops 2 times a day. Later that evening after playing, coloring, doing some art/craft projects making sun catchers, and more at grandma and grandpa's we met for dinner at Salt Grass Steakhouse. Whew, I was toast after the week! I was sad to not be with them but know they had a blast. Thank goodness for everyone's help, otherwise they would of been in CFISD day care/camp all week. Now to figure out our morning plans three days a week. I have to be at work at the time that the door to the kids' school opens since they are a late school and my work is an early school. Darn 30-40 minute overlap! For now Jason is going into work late and then working extra late Monday-Wednesday.
