1st Camping Trip

Early Saturday morning Landon and Jason took off to Lake Somerville for their first camping trip with Cub Scouts; Landon's first camping trip ever.  Despite the frigid temperatures they had a great time.  It was in the windy 50's during the day and got down to 39 degrees at night.  Landon slept well only hearing the owls and coyotes while Jason said he froze, especially his toes and didn't sleep most of the night.  During the day the kids learned how to play volleyball (I'm sure that was comical!), went fishing, and went on a beautiful long scenic hike through the woods and learned how to use a compass.  He loved the hike!  He especially loved using a hiking stick and then burning it in the fire.  The boys all huddled around the fire at night to stay warm, loved burning sticks, and roasted marshmallows.  They also had skits and retired an American flag.  Jason was chosen to help.  They apparently have a certain way to cut the flag up and burn it.  I didn't even know that was how you retire a flag and only certain groups are allowed to do so such as boy scouts and the military.  In the morning after breakfast they had an inter-faith church service and then everyone all packed up to head home.  Of course the weather was warmer on Sunday.  Jason was worried for weeks that it would be too hot, so he got his wish and got extreme cold weather.  When Landon came home he talked and talked all about his trip.  He had a blast!  His favorite was fishing and hiking.  He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and acting silly.  He did not like the volleyball at all though as he said it was boring.  We love our cub scout den and pack so far as everyone is so nice and everyone gets along great.  The boys always have such a good time.  On their way home Jason and Landon stopped to visit Busha (Jason's grandma) since they drove right past her place in Brenham.  He apparently talked all about his camping trip then too.

Jason really wanted Emerson and I to go but we already had plans.  Glad we didn't as Emerson would of probably not done well and wouldn't of slept at all, especially on a cot in the cold.  I also thought it would be nice for Landon's first camping trip to be "just the boys" as that's all he'd been talking about.  On Saturday I had the Jailbreak Run downtown at 9:30am with my friend Tania and her husband Brian while Emerson still stayed at my parents house as my dad brought Landon home early on Saturday morning to head out camping.  The run was fun but I was out of shape this time around where typically I'm not.  I obviously have not been in the mood to exercise these past few months as I'm just exhausted, mainly mentally.  The walk back to the car soaking wet in water, foam, and mud was quite frigid though!  After the run I came home to take a VERY much needed shower and to hose off and wash everything.  Emerson's fall festival at her school was from 10-2 but we couldn't make it in time.  I felt bad as it was her last year.  I picked Emerson up at my parents house and headed back home for a 3pm birthday party down the street.  Emerson had other plans and decided to nap in the car.  So I just left her in the car in the garage since it was cold out and the little stinker napped for 1 1/2 hours.  I finally woke her up which wasn't a good idea but by then it was almost 4pm.  She was extremely cranky when I woke her up but after about 20 minutes at the party she was ready to have fun and play.  It was a great get together and it was nice to meet some more parents/kids from Swenke that don't live in our section.  We then headed home to watch the A&M vs Auburn game while Emerson enjoyed playing all by herself without having to share a thing with Landon.  It was a nice evening with just the two of us and got even better as the Aggies stomped all over Auburn.  Whoop!

My Kind of Party

On Friday Jason and I headed in the very cold drizzly weather to The Woodlands for the Jason Alden and Luke Bryan concert.  I bought the tickets back in July for Jason's September birthday present.  My parents took the kids after school and we headed out for an early dinner and then headed to the concert.  We ended up going the back way and got there quickly and found decent free parking.  So, we got to our seats pretty early.  Walking the 15-20 minute walk was freezing!  Once we were in our covered seats it wasn't as bad until a big gust of wind came in.  I had on 3 layers of clothes.  It was a great concert!  Luke Bryan is amazing!  Not only is he super cute but he's very funny and entertaining.  I bet there is never a dull moment when on tour with him.  Jason Aldean was good too, just not as personal and humorous.  But, they put on one heck of a show with amazing sounds, lights, special effects, etc.  We started walking to the car when there was about 2-3 songs left and could still hear everything word for word even with a 15 minute walk to our car.  The only downfall was some of the crazy and weird people as Jason and I love to people watch.  Quite some interesting entertainment!  We spent most of the show giggling and poking fun at crazy people.  Another bad thing was that everyone stood up for the whole show.  We had to stand up the whole time too otherwise we couldn't see a thing.  And of course there were some cowboy hats blocking some of our view of the stage.  Thank goodness for the big t.v. screens!  We still paid about $150 for our tickets as I didn't want to have lawn seats...so glad we didn't as those people were freezing.  I would of loved to have seats in the first section but most of those were going for over $200-$500 a piece.  Crazy!  I bought the tickets on-line within minutes of them going on sale and got the last seated tickets.  They were still good as they were center stage.  However, all of the morons that wanted to stand for an ENTIRE concert like it was an Aggie game made the seats not as enjoyable as they should of been!  :)  Oh well, we still had a great night and the kids had fun at Grandma and Grandpa's house.  They played, made Fall cookies, and Emerson played dress up and tortured Maggie.  Poor Maggie sure tolerates a lot.  She is literally Emerson's big baby doll!  Emerson's a camera hog too as you can see in the pictures below.  My dad had to bring Landon back early Saturday morning as the boys were heading out for their first camping trip with Cub Scouts (Landon's first camping trip ever).  Talk about bad timing on the weather....burrrrr!  Post on that coming soon.
